Meyer manifestó: “Es un honor para nuestro país que el Dakar 2014 se inicie en la ciudad de Rosario que fue cuna de la Bandera y que el día de descanso se realice en la provincia argentina de Salta”. El funcionario aseguró que “la competencia nos ha permitido sumar una nueva herramienta para promocionar a nuestro país y sus atractivos turísticos, con paisajes únicos y diversos y servicios de alta calidad”. “Las estadísticas indican que tres de cada cuatro personas saben que el Dakar se llevó a cabo en nuestras tierras. Un millón y medio de espectadores acompañaron la carrera a lo largo de la ruta durante la última edición”, agregó. El director del Dakar detalló que en su sexta edición sudamericana, el recorrido del Dakar cambiará de recorrido. “Para el 2014 habrá un trazado de resistencia que comenzará en Rosario, Santa Fe. Salta será el día de descanso. Luego transitará por Bolivia y finalizará en Valparaíso, Chile”. Además destacó que “el éxito de las cinco ediciones pasada, determinó que el Dakar tuviera la largada nuevamente en la Argentina”. El rally tendrá 14 etapas, la categoría autos recorrerán 9373 kilómetros (4863 km cronometrados); en la categoría motos habrá 9373 km (4904 km cronometrados). Habrá 720 vehículos inscriptos (171 motos, 40 quads, 151 autos y 41 camiones) que representarán a 50 nacionalidades.

Entre quienes pilotearán autos, se destacan el qatarí Nasser Al-Attiyah, el español Carlos Sainz, el sudafricano Giniel De Villiers, Nani Roma y los cuyanos Lucio Álvarez y Orly Terranova. En moto, algunas de las figuras más reconocibles son el francés Cyril Despres, con Yamaha y el español Marc Coma en KTM, además del argentino Javier Pizzolito en Honda. En su paso por Argentina, del 2 al 4 de enero se realizarán las verificaciones Técnicas y Administrativas en la ciudad de Rosario, Santa Fe, la largada simbólica se iniciarla en (04 de enero), San Luis (05 de enero), San Rafael, Mendoza (6 de enero), San Juan (7 de enero), La Rioja (8 de enero).

En el lanzamiento también estuvieron presentes el delegado del Ministerio de Turismo en Francia, Carlos Feeney; la coordinadora de Eventos Especiales, Maggie Stangaro; el director deportivo de la prueba, David Castera; el director de Relaciones Institucionales de ASO, Gregory Murac y los pilotos Cyril Despres, Marc Coma, Nani Roma, Stephan Pheterhansel, entre otros. Durante la edición 2013, 4.600.000 millones de espectadores siguieron el Dakar, de los cuales un millón y medio vio la competencia en la Argentina.
