El viernes 2 de marzo de 2012 fallecía el Presidente del Centro Islámico de la República Argentina, Al-Haÿÿ Samir Salech (Dios le conceda Su Paz y Protección). Salech, junto con los miembros de la Comisión Directiva del CIRA, se preocupó por el espíritu y la salud de la juventud musulmana argentina. Por esa razón llevó adelante la organización de dos “Encuentros Juveniles Islámicos”, uno en 2009 en la provincia de Buenos Aires, y otro en octubre de 2010 en Embalse Río Tercero, provincia de Córdoba. Fue cofundador, junto al Secretario General del CIRA, el Dr. Sumer Noufouri, del programa radial “La Voz del Islam”, en enero de 2009, que se emitió sucesivamente por radio Splendid, Argentina y Cooperativa hasta mayo de 2011.

También, fue cofundador con el Dr. Noufouri de la Agencia Islámica de Noticias (AIN) en mayo de 2010, y del Programa “El Cálamo y su mensaje”, organizado conjuntamente con la Televisión Pública a partir de mayo de 2011.

Precisamente, en septiembre de 2010, luego de un acuerdo con el Arzobispo de Buenos Aires y Cardenal Primado de Argentina, Monseñor Jorge Mario Bergoglio, actual Papa Francisco, se llevó a cabo en el CIRA la Presentación del Diálogo Islamo-Cristiano.

Gracias a la iniciativa de Samir Salech, en noviembre de 2009 se instituyó el Premio Averroes del CIRA para ser entregado a aquella persona sobresaliente por su solidaridad y permanente vocación de servicio con la comunidad islámica argentina. El primer galardonado fue el Secretario de Culto de la Nación, Embajador Guillermo Oliveri (2009), luego el Subsecretario de Obras Públicas, Ingeniero Abel Fatala (2010), entre otros.

A principios de noviembre de 2010, Samir Salech llevó a cabo la Santa Peregrinación del Islam, Al-Haÿÿ. Durante sus dos gestiones se firmaron convenios con el Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales (INCAA); el Centro Islámico formó parte de la creación de DIVERSIA, el primer Centro de Investigación, Desarrollo y Capacitación en Materia de Diversidad Cultural, Religiosa y Étnica de la Argentina, de la región y del mundo.

Firmó un convenio único de colaboración y transferencia, con la Secretaría de Obras Públicas de la Nación, para llevar adelante las modificaciones que permitieron la refuncionalidad de la sala velatoria y la sala de mantenimiento de la entidad y se llevó adelante la Ampliación de la primera Mezquita de Argentina, Al Ahmad, que fue inaugurada el 19 de agosto de 2009, junto al secretario de Culto de la Nación, Guillermo Oliveri.
